Over spring break I was in a used book store and I found a book that I have been wanting for awhile, and it was only $5.49. I was stoked. It was a pretty good deal since the book is relatively new. So I paid for the book and walked out of the store incredibly content with my purchase.
Next, I went to another used book store and lo and behold I found the exact same book for $3.99.
Which brings me to the purpose of this post. Should I be upset because I could have purchased the book for cheaper? Or should I still be happy that I got it for a cheap price? Personally, I didn’t let the fact that I found it cheaper diminish how happy I was initially.
This can be applied to many areas of life. You do not always have to have the newest gadget. That fact that someone else has something that is better than what you have does not mean that what you have is now damaged or less significant.
If you live your life comparing what you have to what others have you will quickly find out that you will always be lacking possesionally. So try not to get caught up in all that madness and stay content with the only thing that has eternal significance: Jesus.
Soli Deo gloria
